Blog #4 (S,1)

I had a very good week that included something incredibly important to me. I have finally made the NHS. This has been a goal of mine ever since I started Post Oak and I'm very excited that I have finally been able to get a spot within the organization. I am aware that I had struggled to get in in the past as a result of my actions. I was told that I needed to show more leadership qualities, so that is what I have been trying to work on for the past year. I took courses online and tried to be more helpful at school, and clearly it has paid off! I am very excited for the work that I will be doing with them, as even though I am not super sure of what they do, I am aware that it is positive community work. So, in the end, I am glad that I will be able to build up the community and hopefully become a better, more well-rounded person in the process.

This week I worked on an art project involving clay. I am not particularly good with art in general, and especially doing anything other than simple drawings, so this is something that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I wasn't very sure what to create, so in the end, I made a football pitch with an El Clasico taking place, making both Messi and Ronaldo into clay figures. I tried to be extremely uniform with the sizing on everything, obsessing over straight lines and evenly sized parts, like the heads of the players, for example. So, overall, this week was about learning on obtaining new skills that I wasn't necessarily knowledgable, or even interested in beforehand. This was not a one-off class for the week as we had a total of 4 hours of art class spread across 2 days of the 3 day week.

Blog #2 (C,2)

Last week was lengthy but enjoyable. My challenge last week was in taking the PSAT. I was surprised by how much I feel that I have grown in regards to understanding in the math section. I remember in past versions, I was guessing for most, if not all, of the math section. If I had to say that I developed a new skill in the process, I would say I felt more comfortable with taking my time to find the correct answer. I remember in previous years, I would have to guess for most of, or just a significant chunk of the math section. This is the first time where I have been able to answer a significant account after finding the answer. I was very proud of this week because it was real, visible, tangible growth in this aspect to me. I look forward to working on this so the math section is not even the slightest of issues to me

This week was a very long one. It included a lot of work, and a lot of learning. An example that has happened this week is that, for my math homework, I began to struggle with it, so I adapted by referring to old materials and reaching the answer by myself. Another issue that was worked around this week was at our science experiment. It was not very clear how to calculate percentages on the mixture that we made. Many people were struggling, but I was the first one to figure out how to work the percentages, and additionally I corrected others for them, so that they would be able to measure in the right amount all of each component to the mixture. That was the main extent of my personal growth as well as my growth in knowledge for the week. If I could think of more examples right now, I would. But, understandably, seeing as this is my first blog, I am struggling with this at the moment, but I'm sure this will be easier as time goes on.
